Antique steamer trunk revived

Antique steamer trunk revived

Do you think this would fit in the overhead compartment on Ryanair?... 😄
This project was truly a labour of love. I've always wanted to get my mitts on an antique steamer trunk and I'm so grateful to my client for asking me to work on this one.
The aim was to bring it back to some semblance of its former glory while retaining the character its gained over the years. The interior fabric had to go but the exterior canvas was a must keep, even with the damage caused by an old wood worm infestation. I stripped the black paint from the canvas and trimmed back the frayed edges from the wood worm damage before sealing it to prevent any further damage. The wood was stripped back dyed and sealed with clear wax and all the metal work was stripped back before restoring it with some matt black metal paint by #rustins
Lastly I used this stunning cork fabric for the interior and finished it with a green thread trim.
I'm delighted that we could save the initials of the original owner printed on the side. I wonder where D.L. went on their travels and what treasures they kept inside.
