G Plan dining table and chairs

G Plan dining table and chairs

There are some projects I will always remember working on and this definitely one of them. A family heirloom at its finest, bought by a wonderful couple in England in the 70s for their family home, it made the journey back to the family homestead in Ireland and has been passed onto their daughter for her family home. This GPlan stunner has served the family for over 60 years and will no doubt last another 60, quality at its finest.
My job was to give it a bit of TLC and bring it back to its original look. I degreased it using sugar soap then stripped all the surfaces back gently, added some wood dye to the bleached spots and finished it with matt polyurethane to highlight the natural beauty. The hardware that allowed the leaf to fold out was missing so I replaced that and bobs your uncle she was on her way home.
What do you think?

If you would like to save a family heirloom for the next generation please give me a shout.
