Hand painted meadow monk's bench

Hand painted meadow monk's bench

Every so often a project comes along that is just pure joy to work on and this was one of them.
I think 90% of houses in Ireland had a monks bench like this at some stage 😄 I found this one in a local charity shop. It was in perfect condition and I immediately knew what I wanted to do with it. Follow my easy steps to give yours a new life or get in touch and I can help you with it.
First up was the all important sugar soap to remove any grease, which would stop the paint adhering. Next a light sand to give the surface a tooth for the paint to cling to. As I was planning to paint it a light colour I opted to put an undercoat on first to avoid any bleed through I used #zinsser Bulls Eye 123
I created a blend effect using #frenchic paint (wise old sage, and créme de la créme). Applied using #Twofussyblokes rollers of course. Next up was the floral detail which was all handpainted. Finally I sealed it with clear wax from frenchic for a durable finish.
This pretty little thing is now for sale, perfect for storage in a bedroom.
