Refinished card table

Refinished card table

We've all been there, you move into your new place and it's empty but your family are only too happy to help by giving you some old pieces of furniture 'to get you started' 😄 Sometimes they're just not your style, sometimes they're rocking some pretty old school fabric or sometimes they're covered in a thick layer of really dark brown lacquer.
It can be hard to know what to expect underneath, I find it best to sand a small patch in a hidden area for a peek. Most of the time you'll find it's no where near as dark as the varnish would have you believe. As was the case with my latest job.
This coffee/card table was sporting some seriously deep red/brown glossy finish. My client wanted to give it a refresh to dial back some of the chips and scrapes it picked up over the years. We were all surprised to find some stunning pale wood grain hiding underneath. After stripping, sanding and polishing it up I went with some nice browning wax to give it a more modern look and to protect the wood.
